How fast are the vans?
Grease lightening!
Are they difficult to drive?
No, but they do offer a completely different driving experience to that of a modern car and can take a bit of getting used to. Rest assured though, when you collect your van we will run through everything you need to know and even take you for a test drive if needs be to ensure you are comfortable and in full control. Once you've sussed it, driving a campervan is stacks of fun and we guarantee you'll have a big stupid grin from ear to ear.
So what's in the vans?
Fridge or coolbox, dual hob, grill, plug sockets, cooking utensils and equipment, cutlery, table, camp chairs, bedding (if required) and even the kitchen sink (and of course with running water!).
What do I need to bring?
For their size, our vans are the most functional available, but space is limited so use your common sense when thinking what to bring and what to leave, towels, toiletries clothing and sports/recreational gear, is all you should need - we provide the rest. Top tip - go food shopping on route - bacon, eggs, milk, a bottle of wine straight in the fridge, lovely!
Do I need to take out insurance?
The vans have fully comprehensive insurance, however, we cannot cover your personal possessions, so if necessary we recommend you take out suitable holiday insurance.
Am I responsible for any insurance excess?
Yes the hirer is responsible for an excess of up to £750. We realise that this is bit high, but the excess is dictated to us (and all hire companies!) by our naughty insurance company! Rest assured, in the case of any mishaps, Happy Camper promise to make any repairs or replace any equipment in the most coat effective manner.
Is it possible to take out a Collision damage waiver policy to limit the insurance excess?
Why of course! You can reduce the excess to zero by paying an extra £11 per day, or for £5.50 extra per day you can reduce the excess to £350.
So, how much deposit do you require?
£300 cash. This will be refunded in full on the safe return of your van. If there is any minor damage or loss of equipment, the relevant amount of cash will be deducted from the £300 and the balance returned. In addition to this and dependant on our mood we may well subject you to the dreaded Chinese burns and dead arms! If it is deemed that the damage exceeds the £300 deposit get ready for some Kung Fu fighting and be prepared to settle the balance up to the excess charge. Don't worry, any problems will be sorted out in true Happy Camper, laid back style!
Where can we camp?
We can provide a comprehensive list of campsites, both locally and further afield, as well as providing information on our own personal favourites. The beauty of a Happy Camper holiday is that you can personalise it to suit your needs. You may need to pre book your pitch for some of the more popular campsites, especially during the busy summer school holiday period. There are also lots of places where you can camp up overnight for free, but check first to see if it is safe and legal to do so, one draw back though - no amenities! Wherever you camp respect the countryside, keeping and leaving your site litter free.
Do we need a pitch with an electric hook up?
No, electric hook up facilities will let you use 240v appliances, but without it you will still be able to operate the lights, fridge and water pump.
Where are you located?
Our Nottingham base is in the heart of the city, which is the perfect gateway to the magnificent Peak district and surrounding areas. As we are centrally located in the Midlands most UK destinations are only a fun filled road trip away!
The Nottingham base is in the heart of the city, which is the perfect gateway to the magnificent Peak District and surrounding areas.
Upon booking we will provide you with detailed instructions of how to find us.
Can I hire a van for a longer or shorter period than that stated on your brochure and what will it cost me?
Yes. Happy Camper is a small and friendly company and we will make every effort to meet your holiday requirements, subject to availability. Costs may vary and will be quoted upon request.
What happens if I bring my car?
Your car can be left safely and free of charge on our premises, however, we cannot accept any responsibility for any theft or damage whilst your vehicle is left in our possession.
What about if I arrive by plane or train?
We will pre-arrange a free pick up wherever possible. Arrangements can be made upon enquiry.
What happens if we breakdown?
In the unlikely event of a breakdown you can rest assured that all vans come with 24hr breakdown cover, details of which will be given to you on collection of your van.
I'm under 25; can I still hire one of your truly stupendous vans?
Yes, but an additional premium will be payable due to increased insurance costs.
You operate all year around - isn't it a bit cold for camping outside of summer?
Not at all, ya big nesh carrot! As well as being well insulated our vans come with 240 volt hook up, which means you can plug in a heater for a cosy night in! A big bonus of touring out of season is the lack of crowds, giving you more time to enjoy each location for what it really is. Also some of the biggest surf!
Is there enough space for four adults?
Some vans are two berth and some can easily accommodate four adults, if you can specify the number of people traveling in your party, we'll suggest the best van for your needs. To make life easier don't bring to much stuff (ah, the things we've seen!!) also hiring an awning could be handy as it will double your available space.
How would you like to be paid Sir?
Cash, cheque, postal order or bank transfer, will do nicely thanks. We are not doing card transactions this year in order to keep our operating costs down, which is good for us and good for you!
